Dr
Dre, Eminem Troubles Again
|
 |
|
|
| |
 |
The "Up In Smoke" tour's stay in
the Detroit metro area ended with Dr. Dre being ticketed by the
Auburn Hills police department with a misdemeanor for violating
the city's "promotion of pornography" ordinance. The citation
carries a $500 fine or 90 days' jail time. "I don't know what
their major problem was," said Dre. "Maybe it was because of the
fact that there was a lot of younger people there, but anybody
that listens to our music knows what to expect when they come
to our show, so I just don't understand it." The police also sent
a complaint against the Palace to the Michigan Liquor Commission,
claiming the venue violated the rules of its liquor license by
allowing the video to be shown that night. Dre has until July
17 to indicate to the 52nd 3rd District Court in Auburn Hills
how he plans to handle the matter. Meanwhile, the saga of "Up
In Smoke" co-star Eminem's private life continues to make headlines.
Eminem's mother, Debbie Mathers is reportedly suing him for defamation
based on remarks made on record and in interviews. Reports have
also surfaced that the rapper wants to take over custody of 14-year-old
Nate Samra-Mathers from his mother, who lives in Missouri. No
formal court motions have been filed on the matter yet.

Gay
Organization Targets Eminem

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against
Defamation has issued a statement accusing Eminem of gay bashing,
claiming that lyrics on his new album, "The Marshall Mathers LP,"
"are soaked with violence and full of negative comments about
many groups, including lesbians and gay men." GLAAD cites several
lyrical passages throughout the violence and profanity-laced album.
GLAAD officials call Eminem's label, Interscope Records, "irresponsible...to
produce and promote such defamatory material that encourages violence
and hatred," and pointed out that the market for Eminem's music
- adolescent males - is "the group that statistically commits
most hate crimes." The organization called on Interscope to "raise
its standards for what products it produces and what artists it
promotes." As for Eminem, GLAAD suggested that the rapper must
understand "how such disregard for others can lead to discrimination,
physical abuse and even death." "The Marshall Mathers LP" debuted
at the top of the SoundScan chart this week, selling more than
1.7 million units.
